Demystifying the Single Central Record (SCR) –

16th Dec 2025 – MS TEAMS

Course Description

The Single Central Record is one of the most scrutinised aspects of safeguarding compliance in schools and trusts – yet for many staff, it can feel confusing, complex, and intimidating.

Demystifying the Single Central Record strips away the jargon and breaks the process down into clear, manageable steps.

Delivered by Louis Donald, a national safeguarding leader whose SCR training is used to train Ofsted inspectors, this session is designed to be practical, engaging, and directly relevant to your role.

Whether you are new to managing the SCR, or experienced but seeking reassurance and best practice, this course will leave you confident that your Single Central Record can withstand scrutiny and more importantly, that it plays its part in keeping children safe.

  • Understand the legal and statutory framework that underpins the SCR
  • Identify who must be included and what information must be recorded
  • Recognise common pitfalls and how to avoid them during inspection
  • Develop processes to keep the SCR accurate, secure, and up to date
  • Embed a culture of safeguarding assurance through effective record keeping

“Having attended a sneak preview of this CPD, all I can say is, sign up now! Louis was engaging, informative, reassuring and is clearly so knowledgeable. I left the training confident in our MAT wide SCR whilst also reflecting on how we can further support colleagues across the trust and continue to keep our children and young people safe through our unwavering commitment to safer recruitment. A refreshing CPD session on a potentially dry subject! šŸ‘ “Rebecca Diaz, Director of Safeguarding

“I never thought I’d say this, but I actually enjoyed learning about the Single Central Record. Louis has a way of making something so technical feel simple, practical, and even fun. No wonder Ofsted use his training with inspectors.” –Ā Midlands Trust Hr Director
