Governing with confidence:

Safeguarding in multi-academy trusts

Course Description

Effective governance is a cornerstone of safeguarding assurance within multi-academy trusts — yet many governing boards and trustees feel uncertain about their statutory role, responsibilities, and the questions they should be asking.

Governing with Confidence: Safeguarding in Multi-Academy Trusts provides trustees, governors, and senior leaders with the knowledge and assurance they need to oversee safeguarding with clarity and confidence.

Drawing on real case studies and best practice from across the sector, this session explores how to:

  • Understand the statutory duties of trust boards in relation to safeguarding
  • Distinguish between operational and strategic responsibilities
  • Use data, reporting, and assurance mechanisms to monitor safeguarding effectively
  • Recognise indicators of risk and what good safeguarding governance looks like in practice
  • Strengthen accountability, culture, and professional curiosity at board level

Delivered by Louis Donald, Principal Safeguarding Partner at EduShield and one of the UK’s leading safeguarding advisors, this course is engaging, practical, and directly aligned to the expectations of Ofsted, the DfE, and the Academy Trust Handbook.

Whether you are an experienced trustee, a local governor, or new to governance, this course will leave you with the insight and tools to ask the right questions, hold leaders to account, and fulfil your safeguarding responsibilities with confidence.
